Encaustics with Maralyn Wilson

maralynWilson-encaustic-201Maralyn Wilson’s beginner’s encaustic workshop focuses on the basics of painting with media made from hot beeswax, resin and pigment. This luminous paint offers many unique characteristics; a virtually immediate drying time allowing colors to be layered in rapid succession, the opportunity to carve into the paint or imbed various textures & images, and the ability to rework the image as many times as you like! Unlike most art workshops, students will leave with several beautiful and finished works of art.

The Book as Art Object with Doug Baulos

711008_10152390686905191_882370905_nExplore modern reinventions of worked long stitch binding with artist Doug Baulos. Using original images and calligraphy we will work with a variety of spine constructions and expose the creative potential of the book/journal as an artistic object. Technical construction will be merged with conceptual intent in the creation of an expressive book form both pictorially and structurally. In this workshop participants will make a codex with rigid covers and multiple variations of spine treatments. Participants will learn various expressive techniques towards making an exciting and archival book/journal, envelope for collection, and object of art.
